River Fishing in Co. Durham
Fishing Breaks offers the opportunity to explore the beautiful and wild fishing of northern England with the young and rising guide, James Waine.
Off the beaten track, James will be guiding you on the Eden, Tees and many of the unsung, rarely fished tributaries that emanate from the North Pennines.
These northern streams are famed for wild brown trout but, on occasions, there is the opportunity to fish for grayling.

Fishing advice and flies
In broad terms the fishing season runs from April - September. James enjoys his best guided days in all the usual weeks of April, May & June, but the summer months are when his hiking adventures really come into their own. A good grasp of the basics is essential but past that, James has a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw from and will provide all the tackle, equipment and flies required for your day.
Guided day
These days are suitable for all fly fishers, targeting the wild trout and grayling of the Tees, Eden and their tributaries of the North Pennines. Wading on the River Tees is relatively easy-going, whereas the Eden is more difficult. Use a standard 8-9ft 3/5wt set up. James will provide nymphs, wets and dries, plus tackle if required. Essential that you bring your own chest waders.
Hiking adventure
These are for the experienced fly fisher with a good level of fitness and a desire to try something truly against the grain. You will enjoy some spectacular views, tackle tricky terrains, and fish some of the Lake District’s best kept secrets. The emphasis is on travelling light, James finds a 7ft 2wt set up (or similar) will lend itself to the job in hand. Waders are not required, just some sturdy walking boots and comfortable waterproofs. Tackle, flies and lunch is provided as required.
